Why necro diaries?

In May 2020, at a time when everybody’s health worries centered around the coronavirus, i had a relatively harmless accident and tore a tendon, the quadriceps tendon, in my right leg. It should have been a little standard repair, but during surgery at the hospital i contracted the so-called flesh eating disease, scientifically called necrotizing fasciitis.

“I’m told I was a few hours away from being dead…If there was ever a disease fit for a science-fiction writer, flesh-eating disease has got to be it. This…spread across my leg as fast as a Star Trek space disease in time-lapse.” Peter Watts, The Plastinated Man

It is not a beautiful one to go through, and i was told after that i had been just some hours away from not making it.
I made it, thanks to my own quick reaction, the amazing dedication and skills of medics, surgeons and hospital staff, and the support of my closest ones.

This site collects some writing about the disease, my experiences, things seen and perhaps learned – and hopefully some advice for dealing with it, and overcoming its aftereffects.

“If we could express our gratitude with the same fever as our hate and anger …” Sebastian Büttrich, Necro Diaries
